This assignment aligns with ADEA National Standards of Practice as the purpose is to provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of diabetes complications, (microvascular and macrovascular), the related pathophysiology, risk factors, signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment strategies.

Complete both part 1 and part 2 of this assignment task.

Part 1
Hypertension, dyslipidaemia and atherosclerosis are all examples of macrovascular complications of diabetes.
1. Describe the pathogenesis (cellular events and reactions) of hypertension
2. Identify the risk factors for macrovascular complications and explain the multidisciplinary and collaborative, management strategies for people with diabetes to reduce their risk for developing long term complications.
3. Explain the possible treatment options for hypertension using evidence based literature to support your explanations.
Part 2
Retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy are all microvascular complications of diabetes. 1. Describe the pathogenesis of retinopathy
2. Explain the way that retinopathy might manifest itself to the person with diabetes (ie neuropathy can manifest itself as gastroparesis).
3. Identify and explain the diagnostic tests that might be used to diagnose and monitor the progress of retinopathy
4. Explain the key evidence based management and/or treatment strategies recommended for retinopathy using evidence based literature to support your explanations.
